NINA VIVIANA CANGIALOSI i MAURO MANCINI

UNA BARCA NEL BOSCO / a boat in the woods

José Saramago -Viagem a Portugal

*wood returning to wood*
A boat in the woods is a site specific environmental installation
inspired by Saramago’s novel O conto da ilha desconhecida.
The idea is to bring back a disused boat (symbol of the Voyage)
to a new life, giving back the wood to its origin and metaphorically
navigate a forest. The boat will remain part of the landscape.

During the entire project will be compiled a logbook (from the beginning of research to launch) including images and notes.
The diary will become a part of the installation.
The boat could be equipped with a self-sufficiency echo energy system.
As site-specific work it will take its name from an element that will be found in the research phase.
On the day of the launch the local artists are required to create a work related to the topic of navigation and travel.
We are currently working on the prototype (see attachments) that will be rebuilt in a pine forest in Valle d’Itria (Fasano, Bari - Italy) in April and which will take the name and symbol of Clathrus Ruber, a rare fungus found during first inspections.
